It was a great pleasure for me and for the orchestra to rehearse and perform Alma Deutscher’s violin concerto with her as part of the Festival frauenkomponiert 2018.
It’s encouraging and impressive to see how the project has grown since 2014/15 and that Basel has become a centre of music by women composers.
As part of the Festival frauenkomponiert 2018 in Zurich, Basel and Bern from 7th–11th March we will be premiering the orchestral work commissioned for the festival by Heidi Baader-Nobs, Evasion.
As part of the Festival frauenkomponiert 2018 in Zurich, Basel and Bern from 7th–11th March we will be premiering Agnes Tyrrell’s ouveture from the oratorio “Die Könige in Israel” (The kings in Israel), written around 1880.
One of the highlights of the frauenkomponiert Festival will certainly be Alma Deutscher’s performance of her own violin concerto.
Following on from its groundbreaking events of 2015 and 2016, the ideal and real planning of the third edition of frauenkomponiert in March 2018 is underway.
The event on International Women’s Day 2016 in the Martinskirche Basel with conductor Jessica Horsley and her orchestra, L’anima giusta, was so much more than just a concert.
A wonderful programme, with excellent orchestral works by women composers from three centuries, played by professional musicians from Basel and the surrounding area on International Women’s Day in the Martinskirche Basel. Who could resist?
After the resounding success of frauenkomponiert 2015, a sequel is planned for 8 March 2016 with outstanding orchestral works by Emilie Mayer, Ethel Smyth, Junghae Lee, and Vítĕzslava Kaprálová.
On 8 March 2015, Jessica Horsley’s conducting debut in the Basel Stadtcasino ended with an extended standing ovation – no common occurrence in Swiss concert halls.
