Jessica’s new “Mass of Light” (2020–21) for choir and organ complete with whirling Sufis sets Aramaic, Arabic, German and English texts from the Bible (Peshitta) and the Koran. It was conceived as a universal mass and written as a sign of, and gathering point for light. The double-meaning of the English word “mass” points to both mystical spheres and the realms of quantum physics. The work is an essay on that which is beyond our comprehension.
